Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line Project Lot-2: Mosamiyat to Numaish (Construction of BRT Lanes and associated infrastructure, Flyovers, Underpasses, Elevated U Turns, Bus Stations, Drainage Works, Landscaping and long-term maintenance of works”.
Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line Project Lot-2 is divided into two phases i.e. Phase – I & Phase – II.
THE WORKS UNDER PHASE – I:
Construction of Works/Infrastructure” shall be financed out of the funding provided by Asian Development Bank for Karachi Bus Rapid Transit Red Line Project through the Employer “Transkarachi”.
THE WORKS UNDER PHASE – II:
Long Term Maintenance of Works” shall be financed by Government of Sindh through the Employer “Transkarachi”.
1. SCOPE OF WORK
This includes Construction of main BRT corridor, Service roads, mix traffic lanes, connecting roads, Car parking, Repair and restoration works, Walkways, Cycle track, Traffic signs and Road marking, Retaining walls, Underpasses, Elevated fly over and U-turn and Bus stations. This project also includes the construction of an Underground drainage system, street lighting and landscaping works.
2. PROJECT LOCATION
The project comprises of 17.1 km of Rapid Bus Transit corridor originating from Mosamiyat and end zone is Numaish. The project is falling in the highly populated zone of Karachi.
3. MAIN FEATURES
The Main features of the project are as under:
I. ROAD WORKS:
The Road work is divided into different sections of main BRT corridor, Service roads, mix traffic lanes, connecting roads, Car parking, Repair and restoration works, Walk ways, Cycle track. Generally, the road is falling on-grade sections whereas elevated U-turn and rotary along with high embankment section at some sections are also included. General activities of preparation of sub-grade, improved sub-grade, aggregate base course and asphaltic wearing course class 8 with varying thicknesses on different road sections have been provided.
II. FLYOVER AND UNDERPASSES:
The project contains two underpasses at location one at Mosamiyat and the other at Numaish churangi. The flyovers are eleven in numbers, which are distributed among the entire alignment of the project.
III. BUS STATIONS:
The project has sixteen bus stations on the significant public places. The list of the bus stations is as under;

V.RETAINING WALLS, DRAINAGE WORKS AND LANDSCAPING WORKS:
- Retaining walls have been provided on the approaches of Flyover and underpasses and for the underground and overhead passages in Bus Stations.
- Drainage Works have been provided along the complete road section to protect pavement against water damage actions and in Bus Stations. In drainage systems, underground retention cells are also provided with the side drains and drainage strips are also provided on the BRT lanes.
- Landscaping works comprise of various sizes and types of tree plantations and along with provision of grassing and fountains and fiberglass gazebo works.
Adequate safety measures such as guard rails and concrete barriers have been included in the design at the designated sections. The traffic signs, reflectors, and chain link fencing are provided in the design.
